In case you missed it, TikTok is currently obsessed with a frothy drink known as dalgona coffee. Also dubbed “creamy coffee,” this easy-to-make beverage hails from South Korea and is comprised of just four simple ingredients: instant coffee, sugar, hot water, and a milk of your choice (non-dairy alternatives are a-OK).
First thing first – How to make dalgona coffee?
What does Dalgona mean?
Dalgona is a Korean candy made with melted sugar and baking soda.
When a pinch of baking soda is mixed into melted sugar, thermal decomposition of the baking soda releases carbon dioxide, which makes the liquidized sugar puff up, and it becomes a light and crunchy candy once cooled and hardened.

Who invented Dalgona coffee?
Actor Jung Il-woo, who had encountered the coffee in Macau, christened it “dalgona” after a Korean candy that resembles the foamy brown topping.
What does Dalgona coffee taste like?
It’s slightly bitter but has a sweet aftertaste. Its main appeal is the velvety and soft texture – you could be eating coffee-flavored cream. While it’s smooth enough to sip at, you can of course mix the foamy mixture into the hot milk you’ve topped – once you’ve delighted in your success, that is.
